Do Uber and Lyft offer car seats? How does Kidmoto compare?

Uber Car Seat and Lyft Car Seat mode exist in a handful of cities with one seat and tight weight limits. How that compares with Kidmoto.

Written by Kidmoto

Sometimes, in a few places. Details last checked 1 October 2026.

  • Uber Car Seat is available in New York, Los Angeles, Orlando, San Francisco, Miami, Washington D.C. and Atlanta. It adds a $10 surcharge, comes with one seat per car, and is by reservation only. The standard seat can be used rear- or forward-facing and is for children 5 to 65 lbs. In Orlando and Washington D.C., Uber uses a different seat (an IMMI GO).

  • Lyft Car Seat mode is available in New York City only. It adds a $10 fee, uses a forward-facing seat, and is for children 22 to 48 lbs, 31 to 52 inches tall, and at least 2 years old.

  • Everywhere else, you bring and install your own seat.

Kidmoto provides installed seats in 100+ cities worldwide for children from 5 lbs to 100 lbs, in rear-facing, forward-facing and booster setups, and up to 4 seats in one ride.

Isn't a premium rideshare tier like Uber Black the same thing?

Not automatically. Uber's premium tiers, Black and Black SUV, are about the vehicle: luxury cars seating up to 4 or luxury SUVs seating up to 6. Uber's Car Seat is a separate ride type that you choose on its own. If you're comparing options, ask whether a child seat is included and what sizes it covers.
