Kidmoto provides airport and cruise port transfers for families traveling with young children in 100+ cities worldwide. Some trips include charges set by airports, ports, roads and parking garages. This article explains each one, so there are no surprises on your receipt. Because we operate in cities and countries around the world, fees and prices vary by location, and the amounts and names here can differ where you travel.
The short version: Tolls, airport and port fees, and terminal parking are not part of your quote. Because they differ by location and are only known once your trip is complete, they are added to your final receipt after the ride. Airport and port fees and terminal parking are charged at exact cost, with no markup. Tolls are too, except in places where several tolls are combined into one flat rate for the trip, which happens in a number of cities around the world. Fees and prices vary by city, airport, port and country.
Fees at a glance
Toll: roads, bridges and tunnels on your route. Paid to the tolling agency. Actual cost; in some cities several tolls are combined into one flat rate.
Airport Surcharge / Port Authority Fee / Terminal Fee: entry and commercial-vehicle access charged by the airport or port. Paid to the airport or port. No markup, exact cost.
Terminal Parking Fee: the garage's charge while your driver waits to meet you inside. Paid to the garage. No markup, exact cost.
Inside Surcharge (Meet & Greet fee): extra time and labor of an Inside Pickup. Goes to your independent partner driver. A service charge, separate from the above.
When are these fees added to my ride?
Tolls, airport fees, port fees and terminal parking are not part of your quote. Kidmoto operates in cities around the world, and these charges vary by airport, port, road and time of day. Many are only known once the trip is completed, so instead of guessing, we add the charge to your final receipt after the ride.
Does Kidmoto add a markup to these fees?
Airport fees, port fees and terminal parking are charged at exact cost, with no markup. Tolls are charged at actual cost as well, with one exception: in some cities around the world, a trip crosses several tolls and they are combined into one flat rate. See the tolls answer below.
Which charges might appear on my receipt?
Your receipt itemizes your charges. Depending on your trip, you may see:
Base Fare: the vehicle class, mileage and standard routing.
Toll: highway, bridge or tunnel tolls on your route. In some cities around the world, several tolls are combined into one flat toll rate.
Airport Surcharge, Port Authority Fee or Terminal Fee: the amount the airport or port charges commercial vehicles for your trip.
Terminal Parking Fee: the garage's charge when your driver parks to meet you inside.
Inside Surcharge: a service charge for an Inside Pickup (Meet & Greet).
Each charge normally appears on its own line. In some European cities these charges are billed as one combined fee, and in that case your receipt shows the combined amount.
What are airport surcharges, port authority fees and terminal fees?
Most major airports and cruise ports are run by public agencies or government-appointed operators. They charge commercial vehicles fees to enter their grounds, use terminal roads, or stage for pickup. When one applies to your trip, it appears on your receipt as an Airport Surcharge, Port Authority Fee or Terminal Fee, at the amount the airport or port charged for your trip.
What are tolls, and how are they charged?
Tolls are the cost of highways, bridges, tunnels or express lanes on your route to or from the airport or cruise port. In most places, the toll on your receipt is the toll recorded for your trip.
In some cities around the world, several tolls on a typical route are combined into one flat toll rate for the trip. New York and New Jersey are one example: tolls there are charged as a flat rate of $22 per trip. Trips in the region, such as rides to Newark Liberty Airport (EWR), cross several tolls, so one flat rate covers them all. This is a common industry approach, and the flat rate may differ from the exact tolls your driver pays. Flat toll rates are used in other cities around the world too, and the amount varies by city and country.
What is an Inside Pickup (Meet & Greet), and why is there an Inside Surcharge?
Many airports and ports do not allow vehicles to wait at the terminal curb. With an Inside Pickup, your driver, an independent partner, parks in the terminal garage, comes into the arrivals hall or cruise terminal, and waits for you holding a name sign. They help with your luggage and walk your family to the vehicle.
The Inside Surcharge compensates your driver for the extra time and labor of meeting you inside the building. It is a service charge for that service, separate from the government and facility fees above. The Meet & Greet fee is $15 at most U.S. airports, but not all, and it can differ in other countries. The exact amount is shown in your price confirmation when you book. Terminal parking is charged separately and paid to the airport or port.
How is terminal parking charged?
Terminal garages charge by how long a vehicle is parked, and your receipt shows the exact amount the garage charged for your driver's wait. In the U.S., garages typically charge in 30-minute or 60-minute increments, so the charge may step up once your driver's wait passes the next increment. Garage pricing varies by airport and country, and some, especially outside the U.S., charge differently.
Why is parking usually higher on international arrivals?
After an international flight lands, you go through passport control and customs before you reach the arrivals hall. That takes longer than a domestic arrival, so your driver waits longer in the garage and the parking charge is usually higher. It is the exact parking cost for the time your driver waited. There is no separate international fee.
What happens if my flight is delayed?
We track your flight in real time, so your driver's arrival adjusts automatically if your plane is early or late. Drivers time their arrival to your landing, which keeps waiting and parking time as low as possible. If a delay at the airport extends your driver's wait, the actual parking charge is reflected on your receipt.
Are cruise port pickups different?
Often, yes. Cruise ports are secure areas with their own traffic rules. Drivers are generally not allowed to wait beside the ship, so they use staging lots or loading zones assigned by the port. Some ports can only be reached by vehicle. Cape Liberty in Bayonne, New Jersey, for example, sits on an industrial peninsula with a single controlled road, so every passenger needs pre-arranged vehicle transport. Some ports also charge commercial vehicles an access fee, which appears on your receipt as a Port Authority Fee.
At some resort airports, local rules limit where drivers may wait, so your driver may meet you at a designated area outside the terminal exit. Your driver will tell you the pickup point for your terminal.
Do fees and prices differ by city and country?
Yes. Kidmoto operates in 100+ cities worldwide, and airports, ports, road authorities and cities set their own fees, tolls and rules. Local pricing also differs: surcharges, the Meet & Greet fee, parking and toll arrangements can vary from one city or country to the next, and many prices are subject to change based on city and location. Your price confirmation shows the amounts for your trip, and your receipt itemizes what was charged.
What other charges might I see?
Tolls and fees are only part of the picture. Other charges depend on your trip: an early-morning ($20), AM rush hour ($5) or PM rush hour ($7) surcharge in most U.S. markets, waiting time after the free grace period ($1 per minute), and a $10 fee for each local additional stop (a short detour close to your route). A stop that is farther away may cost more. Some cities add their own charges, such as congestion pricing. Amounts shown here are typical for U.S. markets and vary by city and country, and your price confirmation shows the exact amounts for your trip. Surcharges and tolls are not included in your price estimate.
